Final Project Feedback

During the tutorial, Serra encouraged me to develop my concept into a stronger and more cinematic visual statement.
The film could show the emotional journey of a person who becomes trapped in their own digital image until they no longer recognize their true self.
Serra suggested exploring the idea of two layers of reality — one physical and one digital — and using mirrors, glass, or water as symbolic elements to separate and connect these two worlds.

We also discussed how to express the character’s transformation through light, color, and reflection.
For example, the moment when the character realizes that they have become the “filtered version” of themselves could be shown through broken reflections, changes of lighting, or color transitions.
This visual approach can clearly show the tension between illusion and reality.

Serra also emphasized that I should move from concept to structure, building a clear story flow with emotional rhythm, rather than keeping the project only as an abstract idea.

Next Steps

Develop a clear story structure:

1.Reality → 2. Immersion in the filtered world → 3. Collapse and awakening.

Create a colored storyboard to explore lighting, mood, and atmosphere.

Continue technical research in Unreal Engine, focusing on reflection effects, stylized rendering, and cinematic camera movement.

Experiment with color contrast — from cold digital blues to warm natural tones — to express the emotional journey from illusion to self-awareness.

Reflection

This tutorial helped me understand how to turn a philosophical idea into a stronger visual experience.
My project is not only about beauty or narcissism, but also about losing and finding identity in a world filled with digital illusions.
Through stylized lighting, reflections, and poetic composition, I aim to build a visual language of self-awareness and emotional awakening.

“In the filtered mirror of the digital age, we fall in love with illusions and forget the one who is truly looking.”

Storyboard Script

This week, I focused on developing the Storyboard Script for my Unreal short film The Death of Narcissus.
It helped me plan the visual language and emotional rhythm of the story before starting scene production. Each shot includes descriptions of camera movement, lighting, sound, and atmosphere.
