Week12 Final Tutorial

This week I had a tutorial with Nigel about my literature review and report structure. He said my work looks pretty good and I am in a good position to finish it. I already changed my structure from “Scene 1 / Scene 2” to “Chapter 1 / Chapter 2”, and he think this is more clear.

Nigel also corrected my title language. He said in English I should use the word “conveying”, so my chapter title should be more like “conveying narrative through lighting”. He also reminded me not to number too many small titles, because it can confuse the reader. Only the main chapters should be numbered. In the final version I also need page numbers in the contents page.

We also talked about images. Nigel said if I put too many images inside the main text, it breaks my writing and makes it looks like patchwork. He suggested I should not place lots of screenshots in the body. Instead, I can write in the text like (see Fig. 1) or (see Fig. 2), and put the images in an image list. I should only put an image in the main text when I am directly analysing that image.

At the end, I asked if I can use screenshots from the CSM library DVD of the film. Nigel said yes, but I need to reference them correctly. He suggested I check Cite Them Right or his PDF guide to find the correct Harvard style for DVD film stills.

After this tutorial, my next steps is clear: I need to finish one more chapter, write the conclusion, and then check my bibliography and image list.
