Week7 Facial Pose and Heavy Object & Change of Mind Tutorial

Heavy Object & Change of Mind Feedback

This week’s polish feedback focused mainly on motion arcs. The tutor drew over my playblast to show that both the centre of gravity (COG) path and the weapon path need to be as clean and readable as the reference. In my current version, some arcs feel broken or inconsistent, which makes the heavy weapon read lighter and reduces the clarity of the action.

1. COG trajectory (body path)

A key note was to keep the character’s overall body travel smooth and purposeful, especially through the heavy swing. The COG should follow a clear arc/curve rather than wobbling frame-to-frame. If the character is loading weight, the hips should settle; if the character is releasing force, the hips should drive and then recover. Keeping the COG path consistent will make the movement feel grounded and intentional.

2. Weapon trajectory (blade/handle arc)

The weapon arc was another major focus. The tutor highlighted that the weapon should travel in a continuous, flowing curve, matching the reference timing and direction. Any sudden “kinks” in the path or uneven spacing makes the swing feel mechanical or weightless. I need to ensure the blade/handle follows one strong arc from wind-up → strike → follow-through, with clean spacing and readable acceleration/deceleration.

3. Showing weight during crouch / walk / low moves

When the character is crouch-walking or moving low, the weapon still needs to feel heavy.

Facial Pose Connect Feedback

For the Facial Connect task, the main feedback was to record a reference video to study the timing and rhythm of facial transitions. By playing the footage frame by frame (using a phone or mirror), I should observe what moves first and what follows (e.g., eyes → eyelids/brows → mouth, with subtle head/chest follow), and decide where a blink or eye dart can help the poses connect more naturally.
