Week2: Critiquing ball and Plan Pendulum Animation

In this week’s, George gave me feedback on my bouncing ball animation. He suggested that in the planning stage I should add two more frames at the first two peaks, so the ball slows down more naturally. He also pointed out that the ball was rotating in the wrong direction. At the end of the animation, the ball should stop instead of falling down. Finally, between frame 90 and 98, the ball jumped too far, and I need to adjust the spacing. This feedback helps me to improve my timing and planning for the next practice.

This is the result after I made the corrections based on the feedback.

Week1: Golden Pose

This week lesson is about Golden Pose. The goal is to make a clear and strong body pose. The pose should show action and feeling even if it is only a shadow. I need to think about:

  • Exaggeration and personality
  • Clear silhouette
  • Line of action (a big curve through the body)
  • Balance and weight
  • Asymmetry (not the same arms or legs)

I used a drawing reference with a strong action line. It helped me to make the pose more alive in 3D.

I made one pose in Maya. The silhouette looks clear, the body has a smooth line of action, and the arms and legs are not the same. I also pushed the upper body to show more energy.

I set up the turntable animation.

I learned that silhouette test is very useful, line of action makes the pose stronger, and asymmetry feels more natural.

Week1: Bouncing Ball

This week the topic was the introduction and bouncing ball animation. We learned how timing and spacing can make the movement look natural. George also showed us how to check the playback setting in Maya and use 24 fps real-time. Before starting, I made some planning for the ball path and timing. This helped me to understand the process better. I uploaded my animation to SyncSketch for feedback.
